Mr. Alfred Ikwera, the Kasese District Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Secretary General, has expressed dissatisfaction over the omission of FDC candidates’ names from the Electoral Commission’s voter register during the village youth polls held yesterday in Basecamp Lower Cell, Kasese Municipality.
According to Mr. Ikwera, the Electoral Commission in Kasese had earlier confirmed that the names of FDC youth members were included in the register.
However, to his surprise, several names were allegedly found missing when the candidates turned up to vote.
Mr. Ikwera, who also condemned the heavy security deployment at Basecamp playground polling station, faulted the Electoral Commission for failing to notify FDC of the change in Election Day.
He said the lack of prior notice denied the party adequate time to prepare, which he described as a violation of their rights. Mr. Ikwera speaking…
In response, Mr. Godfrey Mbabazi, the Returning Officer for Kasese District, defended the security presence, stating it was necessary to maintain law and order. He confirmed that three FDC candidates were disqualified for not appearing in the Electoral Commission’s register.
