Assistant Commissioner of Police Ewiku Grace, the Deputy Commandant Crop Protection Ministry of Agriculture has ordered for the arrest of farmers involved in harvesting young coffee beans in Kasese district.
Presiding over a half day Coffee buyers’ engagement meeting, organized by Uganda Quality coffee traders and processors Association held yesterday in Verina gardens in Kasese town, ACP Ewiku said some farmers have resorted to harvesting coffee beans to increase the quantity of their yield.
She says they have already ordered local council one chairpersons across the district and sub-county leadership to arrest all the culprits.

The seemingly harsh Ewiku said she will further engage the Regional Police Commander Kasese to enforce the arrests and prosecute suspects to courts of law. ACP Ewiku speaking…..
Similarly, while meeting coffee buyers in Katonzi cell, central Division in Kasese Municipality, the Municipal Agricultural Officer, and Mr.Asanayiri Bukanywa, said middlemen who have encouraging the vice by buying off the immature coffee in the gardens will also be arrested.
Bukanywa, who impounded over fifty kilograms of poor coffee quality, says green berries affect the quality of coffee and must be dealt with.
