The revamp of Kilembe Mines Limited in Kasese district, will boost trade, tourism and market for the locally produced food and non-food items in the district, Mr. Erifaz Muhindi, the Kasese district local council five chairman has said.

The government of Uganda recently handed over Kilembe Mines limited to a new investor, Sarrai Group Limited and Nile Fibre board Ltd, for redevelopment following the signing of the first Mineral Production Sharing Agreement between government and the Sarrai Group.
Addressing the local community members, some of them market vendors at Kizungu market in Kasese Municipality on Tuesday, Mr. Muhindi said his visit to the mines last week revealed that the new investor was getting set to fulfil the demands of the new partnership to revive the dormant mine to boost the local and national economy, and create jobs, of which 40% will target the Kasese people.
He also announced that government was committed to revamp factories, establish and expand the existing irrigation schemes, fully equip Rukoki Hospital and build the Kasese Airfield to boost trade, air communication and tourism in Kasese. Hon. Erifaz speakingโฆโฆ
Hon. Adolph Lexis Ategeka, the Kasese District Chairperson for Production, Marketing, and Natural Resources, asked the local community members to appreciate and protect Queen Elizabeth national park which has so far released about 680 million shillings under revenue sharing project that has benefited many communities, including Kanyangeya and Scheme wards. He urged residents to protect government established projects, including, the popular Parish Development Model funds. END
