The Inspectorate of Government has recovered 12.6 billion shillings in the past 8 months, the Inspector General of Government. Ms Betty Olive Kamya has revealed.
Ms Kamya who indicated that his office had also confiscated property from guilty government workers said the monies were recovered among others from the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industries and Fisheries, and Uganda Bureau of Statistics after official agreed to refund more than Shillings 9.9 Billion Shillings, which they had obtained through false accounting. Monsignor Charles Kasibante, the Vicar General for Kampala Arch Diocese says that the fight against corruption has been external focusing on identifying the resources that have been stolen and given a postmortem approach where the graft is only fought after it has happened.
He however said as religious leaders, they are committed to reawakening the consciences of the believers towards a moral life because the fight must begin with the individual.
