Police fired live bullets to disperse a group of pastoralists in Nkoko Land, Kitswamba Sub-county, Kasese District, after they attempted to attack the Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Busongora County, Mr. Zephanus Mubingwa, during a land boundary opening exercise held yesterday.
Mr. Mubingwa was leading a team of government surveyors under orders from the State Minister of Lands, Hon. Sam Mayanja, to open boundaries in the disputed Nkoko land.
The goal was to facilitate access for cultivators to their allocated plots, amid heavy security deployment.
The pastoralists reportedly resisted the government’s directive and attempted to confront the Deputy RDC, leading to a standoff between them and security personnel.
Despite the resistance, Mubingwa later told our reporter that the exercise was successfully completed, with cultivators retaining 766 hectares of land. Mr. Mubingwa speaking…
He called for calm among cultivators, assuring them that the government will now begin the process of issuing land titles.
