Bwera taxi Drivers in Kasese Municipality have vowed to continue with their sit down strike, should Police fail to unconditionally release thirteen drivers arrested on Wednesday for yet unknown reasons, Kasese Guide Radio has learnt.
Traffic was paralyzed this morning along Kasese-Bwera Highway, after Passenger service vehicles plying Kasese-Bwera route were barred from loading passengers.
A section of Drivers belonging to Kasese Drivers Cooperative Sacco, were allegedly deployed to escort empty vehicles leaving Kasese Municipality to Bwera town in Mpondwe-Lhubiriha town council.
Some passengers reportedly found stranded at Bwera-Kasese taxi stage, described the situation as terrible, since their plans to reach Mpondwe-Lhubiriha Expo market were cut short. Some Drivers and passengers..
The Regional Community liaisons officer for Rwenzori East Region, SP Luke Mbusa, described the strike was un called for since Police is still investigating the allegations about the embattled drivers in custody.

Kasese District Commercial officer, Mr. Simon Kasereka, said the embattled Drivers committed offences, including forging receipts, stamp and opening Bank account for Kasese Drivers cooperative Sacco, after holding illegal elections by the Sacco’s, s interim committee. Mr. Kasereka speaking….
Mr. Moses Kyugi Karutaru, the Chairperson Bwera stage Kasese taxi Drivers cooperative Sacco, cautioned drivers against lawlessness, saying they could have followed the right procedure to express their grevanceies.
