National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission Chairman Dr. Tanga Odoi has called off the Bukono Constituency (Namutumba District) primary election after the murder of one of the agents of State Minister for Lands Persis Namuganza.
Today as NRM Primaries across the country happened, Dr. Tanga Odoi announced he had suspended elections in Bukono constituency because Persis Namuganza’s agent was killed this morning and since then have sent police to arrest anyone connected to that killing.
Namuganza, an NRM-leaning independent MP, seeking the party flag for the Bukono Constituency, is recovering from defeat in the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) election where she lost to Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga in the race for the Second National Vice Chairperson position.
Bukono is now the third constituency in which Tanga Odoi has called off elections over violence, the others being Mawogola North and Mawogola West in Sembabule District.
In Mawogola North, clashes have been reported between supporters, aides and guards of main contenders, President Museveni’s relative Godfrey Aine Sodo and Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Kahamba Kutesa’s daughter Shartis Musherure.
Meanwhile, NRM officials in Serere District have called off voting in five different polling stations after voters failed to observe Covid-19 Standard Operating procedures – SOPs.
Most of the voters across Teso failed to keep social distance and wearing masks when going to the polling stations to line up and vote.
At the polling stations, they mixed up freely with others without observing social distancing. ENDS
