Students from different colleges in Kasese district have called for joint exploitation of natural resources by Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, as an opportunity for social cohesion.

Mr. Edson Bwambale, a student at Liberty College of Management and Journalism, Mr. Barnabas Muhindo and Ms Moreen Tusiime, both from Rwenzori College of Commerce, observe that mutual collaboration between the two countries would enhance plans to tap into resources like lakes, to benefit the local citizens. The students’ observation transpired during a debate held at Rwenzori College of Commerce yesterday to discuss how joint exploitation of resources could spur development between the two countries.
Mr. Jones Kasereka working with Benevolencija and Rowline Muhindo Basa, the Executive Director for Rwenzori Peace Bridge of Reconciliation, said the actions proposed by the students should be taken serious by the local community members and leaders to avoid tensions linked to exploitations of natural resources between the two countries. The debate wasalso attended by students of Rwenzori School of Nursing and Midwifery was organized by Rwenzori Peace Bridge of Reconciliation with funding from Benovalencija, the funders of Tukae Pamoja, a radio program aired over Kasese Guide Radio to strengthen cross border relations. END
