The Bunyangabu District Local Government has issued a 60-days ultimatum to individuals who have encroached on wetlands, instructing them to vacate voluntarily or face forcible eviction.
Authorities report that numerous people have continued to illegally reclaim wetlands for settlement and farming, posing a significant threat to the environment.
Mr. Joshua Masereka, the Bunyangabu Resident District Commissioner, announced that an operation has been launched to warn and evict all encroachers from wetlands across the district.

Mr. Dominic Matsiko, the Buhesi sub-county chief, mentioned that the district has embarked on a mass sensitization campaign to educate people about the dangers of encroaching on wetlands to prevent potential natural disasters. Ms. Linet Kabugho, a resident of Katwebwa Sub County, acknowledged that many people encroached on the wetland due to a severe dry spell and requested that the district allow more time for them to harvest their crops.
