Antimicrobial resistance is partly blamed on misuse and overuse of medical drugs, lack of access to clean water, poor infection and disease prevention and control in health-care facilities among others, Mr. Brayford Kule, a clinician at Rukoki health Centre four, has said.
He said Antimicrobial resistance happens when germs develop the ability to defeat the drugs designed to kill them.
In an interview with Kasese Guide Radio yesterday, Mr. Brayford warned the local community against self-medication, misuse of medical drugs, treating animals and birds with medical human drugs among others, to minimize Antimicrobial resistance among humans.
