Stakeholders in Bukonzo County west Kasese District have agreed to use early warning systems regarding climate change predications and respondents to prepare for risks associated with climate change.
Climate change-related risks that have rocked Kasese in the recent times include, Flooding and landslides that has claimed people’s lives and scores displaced.
This was agreed yesterday during a one day training about Community Based Disaster Management, organized by Karambi Group of People with Disabilities, held at Movic Motel in Mpondwe-Lhubiriha town council.
Participants decided to develop local level displacement risk profiles in disaster hotspots to broaden the knowledge and evidence base of exposure and Vulnerable communities to Government and civil society organizations.
The facilitator, Ms. Anet Babirye from Malteser International, called for a comprehensive recovery plan to help populations displaced by disasters to have a safe return home and increased resilience, sustainable livelihood and access to basic services, especially the disabled. The Secretary for Social Services Mpondwe-Lhubiriha town council, Mr. Zidegho Kule, asked the first disaster respondents to assess the damages while understanding the Vulnerability factor in their reports, urging the participants to become ambassadors and respect PWDS rights.
