Parents and guardians of school going children living with disabilities in Kasese district are uncertain over the next course of action after some of their children are not only internally encamped far from their schools but reportedly lack basic needs.
According to reports from 18 camps across the district including; Nyambuku SDA, Buhunga, Kihungamiyagha, Kalonge one Primary School and Mapatha trading center, some PWDs especially school going children, young girls and expectant mothers lack basic requirement.
Ms Njerina Ithungu and Hon. Silvia Muhindo the female councilor representing PWD’s in Ibanda-Kyanya town council urged the government to consider establishing warning systems, as well as more sensitization to the community for the safety of such vulnerable people.
Hon. Muhindo said besides creating awareness to the PWDs, they have identified individuals to keep with and ensure the safety of isolated cases whose ability is in dare need. Hon. Muhindo and Ms Ithungu…..

Coronias Bagheni, the parish councilor for Bikone parish in Maliba subcounty whose camp at Buhanga primary school playground has more than10 people with natural impairments, called for an affirmative action aimed at looking into the welfare of PWDs who may not have the capacity to battle like the rest of the victims, Hon. Mr. Martin Ssenoga, the Programs Manager at the National Union of Disabled Persons of Uganda says PWDs face uncountable suffering in times of disaster mainly; lack of access to early warning information and failure to get helping hands among others during disasters.
