Six people have been remanded to Mubuku Government Prison until.July17th. 2022 for reportedly dealing in illegal fishing gears, Kasese Guide Radio has learnt.
Court sitting in Rukoki presided over by the Chief Magistrate His Worship, James Opio remanded the suspects after pleading guilty on charges of using premature fishing gears and encroaching in non breeding zones.
The accused are said to have been arrested during a joint operation of UPDF and police yesterday.
According to the district fisheries officer for Kasese district, Mr.Erisenia Bwambale Kithaghenda more than four thousand illegal hooks and thirty thousand under sized fish nets had been exhibited at the Kasese division police station by last evening.
The accused include; Mugisha Charles, Begumanya Vincent, Joweria Faith, Baluku Hosea, Lubowa Innocent and Tumwekwase Daniel.
Mr. Erisenia in a separate interview said the operation switched to these famous dealers in illegal fishing gears to neutralize poor fishing methods that have not only affected some innocent fish mongers but also affected nature conservation. END.
