Seven members of the Emyooga Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization -SACCO in Pakwach district have been arrested for alleged mismanagement of funds.
Those arrested include Francis Ocama, the chairperson of Local Leaders Emyooga Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization, Matilde Jumutho Olum, Emmy Rubange, and Peter Opio among others.
The suspects were arrested on Thursday on the orders of Pakwach Resident District Commissioner Paul Eseru.
According to Eseru, the district security committee resolved to arrest the members over the failure to recover shillings 20 million that was advanced to their SACCO in 2021.Â
He further noted that members of the Emyooga leaders have been frustrating the auditing process of the Sacco and failed to conduct the Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the SACCO. Mr. Paul speaking..
Milton Bua, the Political Commissar for Pakwach district confirmed the arrest of the suspects noting that they are currently detained at Pakwach Central Police Station.
He however warned the local residents against misusing funds meant for fighting household poverty under various government programmes like the Parish Development Model (PDM), the Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP) and the Youth Livelihood Programme (YLP).
