Serere Teachers Risk Missing Salaries for Dodging Lessons

Teachers in Serere District who skip lessons without the knowledge of the school management and administration risk forfeiting their monthly salaries, the district leadership has warned.

This follows a case in Kadungulu Seed Secondary School where four teachers allegedly dodged more than 120 lessons last term.

The authorities have tasked the affected teachers to explain in writing why they failed to attend the lessons assigned to them in the term.

The implicated are Simon Emuron, a teacher of English and Literature, John Michael Odongo, a teacher of Entrepreneurship and Commerce, Charles Osunge, a teacher of Physics and Mathematics and the Deputy Head teacher, Sharon Aluga, who teaches Mathematics and Agriculture.

Reports from the school indicate that Odongo didn’t teach 70 lessons while Emuron dodged 50 lessons.

Robert Ogaram, the Headteacher of the school, says that while some of the teachers claim to have had problems including sickness of their spouses, they were seen engaging in other businesses like teaching in other schools.

However, Serere District LC V Chairperson, Stephen Ochola wants tougher action against the teachers. He wants the teacher’s salary withheld until the matter is concluded. Mr. Stephen speaking….

Sharon Aluga, the Deputy Head Teachers agrees with the observation of the sub-county chairperson but was quick to add that everything has been resolved. END.
