A self-claimed Rwenzururu Royal guard who was arrested during the Kingdom Coronation anniversary day celebrations and later charged with attempted murder, has been denied bail by the Kasese Chief Magistrate’s court.
Court presided over by the Kasese Chief Magistrate, Her Worship Betty Ajok heard that while at the kingdom’s administrative offices on 19th October 2023, Mr. Katundu Maate from Bunyangabu district reportedly attacked SP Wilfred Bagenda, the Kasese Division Police Commander.
During Cross examination, SP Bagenda said he was hit and injured on the head as he shielded the Kasese DISO and OC UPDF in charge of the officers’ Mess from a group of young men who claimed to be Kingdom Royal guards resisting lawful orders to leave the administrative headquarters of the Kingdom to the celebration cite at Kilembe Golf Course along the Kasese-Kilembe road.
Speaking to our reporter later after court, the defense counsel, Mr. Luke Kanyonyi of Kanyonyi and Co. Advocates said the bail application for his client was denied because one of his sureties had no cellphone to ease communication in case of need. Counsel Kanyonyi speaking1….
