By Augustine Mumbere,
There is fear of cholera outbreak in Sauriyako market in Kasese Municipality, should the Municipal health inspector fail to put to task the vendors leadership about proper sanitation and hygiene.
The market which accommodates over five hundred vendors daily is operating without a water borne toilet for the last one month.
When our reporter visited the area, open defecation and exposing waste in polythene bags along the verandah and behind the buildings was normal business in Sauriyako market this morning.
Mr. Francis Kamugisha, the chairperson Sauriyako vendors, said the only public toilet constructed by the Municipal authority had been closed by the enforcement officers over poor sanitation and hygiene.
He said they have written to the Municipal authority requesting them to construct a new toilet but in vain.
Mr. Kamugisha speaking….
Mr. Alfred Bwambale and Zimonia Bwambale, described as failure of responsibility, the municipal council delaying to construct a toilet even when the vendors are paying local revenue.
Mr. Zimonia and Mr. Alfred speaking….
The Municipal Health Inspector Mr. Chrsistopher Kabagambe referred our reporter to the central division health inspector, Ms. Mary Kabugho but declined to comment. END.
