Mr. Benjamin Asiimwe, the Sub-County Chief of Bubaare in Rubanda District, has been arrested for allegedly attempting to bribe the Resident District Commissioner of Rubanda.
Asiimwe was apprehended by Eric Ssewandigi, the Rubanda RDC, at the Capricorn Hotel in neighboring Kabale town.
Asiimwe faces accusations of failing to account for 15 million shillings, which includes both local revenue and funds meant to pay a supplier to the sub-county.
The missing funds were uncovered in a recent audit report.
Asiimwe requested a private meeting with Ssewandigi at Capricorn Hotel to discuss the matter.
Ssewandigi, however, took precautions by bringing police officers along and placing them in a hideout, where he effected his arrest after attempting to hand him a brown envelope, apparently in an attempt to resolve the issue. Mr. Ssewangidi speaking…….
