The Rotary Club of Wobulenzi participated in the 12th annual Cancer Run, a nationwide event aimed at raising awareness and funds for cancer treatment.
The event, which seeks to raise three billion shillings to establish a cancer centre at Nsambya Hospital, Kampala, was flagged off by Bishop Lawrence Mukasa of the Kasana-Luweero Diocese at Centenary Bank in Wobulenzi Town Council.
In his remarks, Bishop Mukasa praised the Rotary Club’s ongoing efforts in the fight against cancer, a disease that has claimed many lives in Uganda, highlighting the importance of continued awareness and support for cancer patients.
Rotarian Erasto Kibirango, the Luweero District chairperson, shared alarming statistics from a recent survey conducted by the Ministry of Health and other partners in Luweero District, revealing that 80% of men in the district suffer from prostate enlargement, a precursor to prostate cancer.
Rotarian Kibirango stressed the urgency of early detection and treatment, urging locals to undergo regular check-ups.
The president of the Rotary Club of Wobulenzi, Mike Wagaba, announced that the club successfully raised over 10 million shillings for the cause. END
