Mr. Zepher Mubingwa, the Kasese District Deputy Resident District Commissioner in Charge of Busongora has described as mere speculation that caving in of the Mpondwe highway bridge in Mpondwe-Lhubiriha town council in Kasese district was as a result of the reluctance by the government of Uganda.
His counter party, Lt. Matte Magwara of Bukonzo County in Kasese had told this radio earlier on Saturday last week that the damage on the bridge was caused by continuous vandalism into a situation that has finally paralyzed traffic especially to Uganda-DR Congo cross boarder heavy commercial vehicles that cannot make use of the makeshift improvised by UNRA.
In an interview with Kasese Guide Radio this morning, Mr. Mubingwa, a medic turned politician said Uganda National Roads Authority did some repairs he described as fast aid which were however overpowered by heavy rains that made the bridge more impassable at a time however that government was ready to commence with general construction works. By yesterday, construction works was on by UNRA to guarantee safety of heavy trucks and trailers on the strong metallic made makeshift bridge as major works on the main one commences as well. END
