The Kasese Deputy Resident District Commissioner in charge of Busongora County, Mr. Zepher Mubingwa has halted the activities of the old leadership led by one Mr. Edward Byaruhanga at the Rutooke based mini-irrigation scheme in Muhokya town council in Kasese district.
The irrigation scheme was partly washed away by the recent floods in the district but the community members, mainly farmers have temporary rehabilitated it using local materials as they wait for government intervention.
Last week, a group carrying out local rehabilitation works on the upper side of the dam led by Mr. Deo Kwataki accused Mr. Edward Byaruhanga, Mr. Andrew Matela and Mr. Joseph Sengoro for reportedly threatening them.
Mr. Mubingwa who later asked police to protect the Muhokya water diversion to have water in the gardens, directed police to arrest whoever defies his orders. Mr. Mubingwa speaking……
Ms Betrice Byema, Mr. Amosi Kisembe and Mr. Andrew Matela were rubbed the wronged way by Mr. Mubingwa’s orders, describing them as unfair and diversionary. Mr. Kisembo, Ms. Betrice and Mr. Matela….
The orders were however welcomed by a section of farmers reportedly led by the new leadership; with Mr. Deo Kwataki, Ms Lamula Kabugho and Mr. Sibaminya Kakule among others, hailing the President’s representative for orders they say will promote massive production of crops. Mr. Deo, Ms. Kabugho and Mr. Kakule speaking……
They also pledged to maintain peace and work by the technical guidelines by the Agriculture officers. END
