A section of Primary school teachers in government-aided schools in Kasese District have described their living conditions asmiserable, citing poor remuneration amidst the current harsh economic situation in Uganda.

Mr. Edson Bwambale, a teacher by profession, attributed multiple loans, stress, and non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and hypertension among teachers to the government’s low pay.
Speaking during the release of Pre-Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) mock resultsfunded byBukonzo East Community (BEC)atKisinga Primary Schoolin Kisinga Town Council yesterday, Mr. Bwambale linked the poor performance to the low morale among teachers. He appealed to the government to increase teachers’ salaries, warning that learners’ performance may continue to decline if their concerns are not addressed.

In a separate interview, Mr. Saulo Maate, the Chairperson of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), criticized the government for allocating over 40 billion shillings to recruit probation police constables to secure the 2026 general elections instead of addressing teachers’ grievances.

Meanwhile, Ms. Edrine Kabugho, BEC Welfare Officer, and Mr. Kithe Bone, former Bukonzo East Constituency Inspector of Schools, commended Bukonzo East Community-BEC for its initiative aimed at improving education standards and the livelihoods of local residents. END
