President Museveni has said that the government plans to launch a mass campaign to start persuading encroachers to vacate wetlands across the country.
Museveni notes that several wetlands have encroached on farming purposes which have interfered with the water table amidst worsening weather.
According to the President, the campaign which will kick off next month will help to restore lost water from the swamps that will in turn help facilitate irrigation for farming. Mr. Museveni on wetlands…..
The President was speaking yesterday while presiding over the International Youth Day Celebration held at Kaunda Grounds in Gulu City. The celebration was marked under the theme “Integrated Solidarity: The role of Youth in Implementation of Parish Development Model.
His statement follows the ongoing exercise launched last week by the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) to forcefully evict encroachers of Lubigi Wetland in Kampala.
Betty Amongi, the Minister of Gender, Labour, and Social Development noted that the challenges of climate change can be addressed by shifting to the use of technology. END.
