Police have warned ‘hooligans’ not to dare
attempt to disrupt the city mayoral elections on Wednesday.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, says they have
received information about ‘hooligans’ who intend to wreak havoc on voters and
businesses in the city during the elections.
He however, says the Uganda People’s Defense Force- UPDF, police force and
intelligence agencies will carry out covert and overt operations to ensure the
election goes on peacefully.

The Kampala Lord Mayoral’s race has attracted 11 candidates. They include among others the Forum for Democratic Change-FDC candidate and incumbent Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago, the National Resistance Movement Candidate, Daniel Kazibwe alias Ragga Dee, the National Unity Platform Candidate, Nabillah Ssempala Naggayi and independent candidate, Joseph Mayanja alias Chameleon.
Voters will also have elect more than 30 direct councillors to Kampala Capital City Authority –KCCA council. Besides City elections, municipalities in Kampala metropolitan areas such as Nansana, Entebbe, Makindye Ssabagabo, Kira and Mukono will also elect their mayors and councillors.
By yesterday afternoon, the Field Force Unit –FFU, military and counter-terrorism personnel were patrolling Kampala city streets and on top of city Arcades since Wednesday last week. ENDS
