A Police Officer who allegedly impounded and stole a motor cycle belonging to boda boda rider Samuel Walunsimbi during normal traffic work under the pretext of delivering it to Kampala Central Police Station has been remanded to Luzira Prison on charges of theft.
Police Constable Micheal Ahabwe aged 37, on Tuesday afternoon appeared before Grade One Magistrate Siena Owomugisha and denied the charges against him.
He was then remanded to Luzira Prison until March 11th 2024 for mention after the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions led by State Attorney Lydia Nakato informed the Court that the investigations are still ongoing.
Prosecution alleges that Ahabwe, attached to Amolatar police station and resident of Andrews village in Kakiika Ward in Mbarara District committed the offence on 4th March 2022 at New Master Stage Equatorial Mall Bombo Road in Kampala when he stole motorcycle UFF 262A Bajaj boxer valued at 5 million shillings , property of Walunsimbi Wasswa.
According to the records before Court, Ahabwe is facing another separate case on file, of theft of rail bars and a metallic small gate valued at one Million Shillings, property of Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Ltd. END.
