Some reports say tear gas and live bullets were fired but this has not been independently confirmed.
At least 20 pupils from Islamic Senior High School in Kumasi have been hospitalized with injuries but no reports yet indicate any sustained gunshot wounds.
They were part of a group calling for speed bumps to be installed following a number of accidents, according to local media.
