Police in Busia are holding a man for alleged possession of the Uganda people’s Defense Force uniform that he uses to brutalize residents in Busia district.
Mr. Ben Wanyama aged 26 years, a resident of Busamba village, Masinya sub-county was arrested last evening in Mugungu village after he was found beating a woman who was taking her baby to hospital.
Mr. Elepot Eriya, the Busia District Police Commander says that the suspect was arrested with the help of the LCI chairman of Mugungu village and that he will be charged with impersonation and illegal possession of government stores.
Mr. Geoffrey Mbulu Kawo, the LCI chairperson Mugungu village says that the village has many people who pretend to be crime preventers and cadres, but instead they brutalize people and steal their properties.

Mr. Abdul Kyoterekera, one of the victims of the brutality says that people wearing army uniforms attacked them in their houses at night and started beating them after breaking into their house they had declined to open late in the night but little did they know that they were not from security.

Earlier, the embattled Ben Wanyama and victim told our reporter that he was authorized by the RDC and office of the LC3 chairman of Masinya sub-county to conduct operation as per the presidential directives but that he bought the military uniform from a Kenyan market. Capt. Chris Mike Okiria, the Busia RDC denied allegations by Wanyama, saying that the presidential directives against Corona virus are enforced by police and UPDF not crime preventers as he alleges.
