The Rwenzori East Region Police have directed members of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) in Kasese to seek clearance from the Inspector General of Police (IGP) regarding their planned charity walk scheduled for tomorrow.

The event aims to solicit support for approximately 1,000 people currently camped at the office of the Resident District Commissioner due to ongoing land disputes.
Yesterday, Kasese District FDC Chairperson, Mr. Ronald Bwambale Kabuku, formally wrote to the police seeking permission to conduct the charity activity within Kasese town.
The objective is to collect both food and non-food items for those displaced and suffering in the temporary camp hosted at the office of the President’s representative in the district.
Addressing the media today at Central Police Station, Rwenzori East Police Spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumusiime confirmed that police had received the request letter from the FDC, However, he advised that the request be addressed directly to the IGP for official clearance.
SP Tumusiime also cautioned the public against engaging in unauthorized charity activities, warning that doing so could lead to friction with law enforcement agencies. SP. Tumusiime speaking….
He further recommended that FDC coordinate with the District Disaster Committee, which is better positioned to advise on how the charity effort can be effectively and lawfully conducted. End.
