Police in Maracha district are investigating the circumstances under which Police constable Issac Alioma from Kijomoro police post shot dead his wife before turning the gun on himself.
The incident happened on last night in Yiba village in Robu Parish in Oleba sub-county in Maracha district.
Alioma shot his wife, Beatrice Maturu dead at around 9:30 pm before shooting himself inside their house. According to the locals, the incident happened a few hours after Maturu and other clan members returned from the Arua district, where they had gone to attend a funeral.
It is alleged that Alioma had earlier signed for the gun from his duty station at Kijomoro police post along Arua-Koboko road to report for duty but instead boarded a vehicle to Yiba village where he shot his wife dead before ending his life. Their two-year-old baby was found inside the house unhurt.
Wilson Madira, the brother of the deceased constable suspects that Alioma could have been prompted to end his life following a domestic brawl. He explains that the couple has been feuding for the past few months over allegations of infidelity.

Ronald Musema, the LC 3 chairperson of Oleba Sub-county, has described the incident as unfortunate and called on couples to seek peaceful means to resolve any misunderstandings.

Festus Ayikobua, the Maracha Resident District Commissioner has cautioned security officers against misusing the guns.
