    People with disabilities in a bid to conserve the environment in Karambi S/C.

    In a bid to conserve the environment, Karambi group of people with disabilities have embarked on the planting of 320,000 food forest in the Karambi sub-county and Mpondwe-Lhubiriha town council in Kasese district.

    Speaking at the project launch this afternoon at Karambi Sub-County council hall, the organization Executive director Mr. Josephat Muhindo said the two year project funded by international tree fund-UK is aimed to promote food security for improved biodiversity and food production in the two piloted sub-counties.

    Mr. Muhindo, said the project will be implemented in Kanyamunyu village, Bikunya trading centre, Kyasenda, and primary schools of Bikunya, Kisolholho and St. Mathew secondary school among others.

    According to Josephat the benefiting schools are requested to provide one acre of land, while on trading centers the trees will be planted around the centers to provide both shade and fruits respectively.

    The Chairperson Local council three for Karambi sub-county, Mr. Martin Masereka who hailed the PWDS for having extended services to the community said his opportunistic to see schools and families using food forestry strategy to produce on sustainable way as well as promoting the environment by co-existing with nature and improving bio-diversity.      According to the organization chairperson board Mr. Isaya Thalhuhunga, the district is losing its green as people encroach on forest reserves for settlement due to the increasing population.

    He asked parents to stop violating the rights of PWDS, before asking them to speak for PWDS in the district. Mr. Isaya Adds;……
