At least four people have been arrested in connection to the suspected poisoning in Rubanda district that saw dozens of mourners admitted at different health facilities.
Trouble for the suspects in custody at Rubanda police station started after mourners who had turned up for the burial of Celina Katuro, a resident of Kitahurira village on Friday developed several complications including stomach pain, running stomach, sweating, general weakness, and vomiting after eating food at the funeral.
Security authorities led by Lilian Ruteraho Tushemereirwe, the Rubanda Resident District Commissioner, and Banes Aine, the Officer-in-Charge of the Criminal Investigations at Rubanda Police Station yesterday convened a meeting at Kitahurira Catholic parish to calm down angry residents who were threatening to lynch the suspects.
Mr. Isaac Besigye, Jesca Muheki, and Remegio Muhumuza who were also affected pin the accused saying that they were seen with ground nuts in the kitchen yet they were not among the cooks.

Ms. Lilian Ruteraho Tushemereirwe, the Rubanda Resident District Commissioner who warned the locals against mob justice, says that the suspects are helping in investigations and need to explain why they were in the kitchen yet they were not among those deployed to cook for the mourners. Banes Aine, the Officer-in-Charge of the Criminal Investigations at Rubanda Police Station says they had registered 88 cases of people who developed complications after eating the food. END
