Otuke district has received thirty thousand metric tons of relief food from the Office of the Prime Minister.

The area which lies on the border of the Karamoja sub-region has for years experienced unreliable rainfall punctuated with drought, flood, and hailstorms which caused insufficient agricultural production leading to food insecurity among its populace.

Ms Betty Apio Opio, the district vice chairperson explains that sub-counties received an unequal share of food based on their population size and the number of beneficiaries, including people living with HIV/AIDs, Persons with Disabilities, the elderly and child-headed families among others. Ms Betty Apio speaking……..

The distribution of the relief to specific categories of beneficiaries however seemed to have angered some other members of the community,Francis Abola, the District Chairperson who however called for calm said he was relieved to see relief food that will be enough for the targeted population that he warns against relying on donations but rather plant crops now that there is rain to avert hunger in the future.
