By Kyamanduma Patrick,
One gun and 34 rounds of ammunition were recovered yesterday along River Kyanzi Valley in Bwera Sub-County, Kasese District.
Lt. Maate Magwara, the Kasese Deputy Resident District Commissioner in charge of Bukonzo County confirmed the information without giving details.
The Local Council III Chairperson for Bwera Sub-County, Mr. Gregory Makotsa, said the weapon and ammunition were discovered following a joint operation between the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and the police.
This followed a lead provided by a suspect, who directed the security forces to the location where the firearm was hidden.
The weapon was reportedly wrapped in a Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) army uniform.
Mr. Makotsa suspects that the recovered firearm may have been used in the recent shooting and killing of Mr. Gerald Bwambale, the Local Council II Chairperson of Kyogha Village in Bwera Sub-County, who was laid to rest last week. Mr. Gregory one speaking….
Mr. Gregory commended the security agencies for the successful operation and called for tighter border security along the Uganda–DR Congo border.
