The General Court Martial has rejected bail pleas of Ms Olivia Lutaaya and 27 other political detainees affiliated with the Opposition National Unity Platform party.
Ms Lutaaya, 32, was in 2021 violently arrested from her home in Namuwongo, a Kampala suburb, and detained incommunicado for weeks before she was arraigned in the military court.
Mr. Robert Kyagulanyi, the NUP’s president, posted on his X in October 2022 that Olivia Lutaaya who is 30 years old and a young mother of two mobilized for NUP during the 2021 election before being reportedly abducted, beaten up, held incommunicado for weeks, and then arraigned before the military court along with more than 30 others.
Ms Lutaaya today watched as four of her fellow detainees – all male – were granted temporary freedom by the army court. END
