Police in Kasese plan to impound school vans following concerns that most of them pause a risk to learners, SP Luke Mbusa, the Acting Police Spokesperson for Rwenzori East Region has confirmed.
Speaking to Kasese Guide radio at his office yesterday, SP Mbusa who said the move was aimed at ascertaining the safety of learners, was concerned that whereas parents pay for transport services, they seem unbothered to associate with the state of the boda-bodas and school vans that transport their children to and from school.
He said the operation whose schedules he declined to open up about, would also look at safety measures, including the mechanical conditions of the vans, competence of the divers, route chats and time of departure, as well as the composition of staff per vehicle besides the driver.

SP Mbusa who doubles as the Regional Police Community liaison officer, said the same operation would deal with parents and guardians who reportedly connive with boda-boda riders and school van drivers to dangerously load. END
