A thirty five-year-old supporter of the National Unity Platform has died after falling off a vehicle during a procession following the nomination of the party’s flag bearer in Rukiga District.
The deceased, identified as Patrick Ndyamugumya, a resident of Kigara Village, Kamwezi Sub-county, was among the supporters who turned up to witness the nomination of Ms Jolly Jackline Tumuheirwe, the NUP Vice Chairperson for the Western Region who is contesting for the Rukiga District Woman MP seat against the NRM’s flag bearer, Dr. Sylvia Alinaitwe. Reports indicate that Ndyamugumya, who was seated on the left side of the vehicle at around 4.30pm during the procession, fell off when the door suddenly opened, run over by the rear tyres and died instantly, according to a preliminary report by the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate.
