Leaders of the National Unity Platform-NUP in Kasese District have called for unity.
They argue that the opposition would have performed better in the last week’s Busongora South by-election if they had fielded a single candidate.
On Thursday, the Kasese District Returning Officer, Ismail Atwijukire Takih declared Gideon Thembo Mujungu of NRM as the winner of the by-election. He polled 12,088 votes to defeat his closest rival Jackson Mbaju Kathika of the National Unity Platform who garnered 6,866 votes among others.
Mr. Brian Basisa, the Kasese District NUP Chairperson says that the defeat should be an eye-opener for the members of the opposition to strategize ahead of the 2026 elections.
