Some land and mudslide victims internally encamped differently in Kasese district have received no support, Kasese Guide Radio has learnt.
Last month, Kasese district experienced heavy rains that caused floods, land and mudslides that claimed lives and destroyed property; forcing the establishment of internally Displaced people’s camps in the district.
During a disaster committee meeting held at Kasese multipurpose yesterday, Mr. Pimako Kasereka, the local council three chairperson for Nyamwamba division in Kasese municipality said whereas his division was badly hit by the flood disasters, no assistance has been extended to the victims. Mr. Edson Syaipuma Bukombi, the sub county chief for Mbunga subcounty said whereas some victims of disasters have received relief in terms of food, some had lost costly property including houses and crops among others that need the interventions by the district Disaster management committee. Mr. Mustafa Kikusa, the principal secretary to the Kasese district Chief Administrative officer concurred with some local leaders about the un supported victims, advising that the subcounty leaderships collect and compile data about the affected people if assistance was to be mobilized with limited challenges. Mr. Joachim Baluku Mapenzi from Caritas Kasese called for thorough assessment of the affected people, some of whose house and pieces of land have deadly cracks that could easily cause havoc anytime it rains. mr baluku……….. speaking
The above therefore forced Mr. Joseph Isingoma, the Kasese district disaster focal person to call for collaborated efforts that would see thorough assessment done and data collected in reference to the affected people. END
