The High Court in Mbarara, presided over by Justice Joanita Bushara, ordered the release of Alfred Byamukama, who has spent 28 years on remand without trial.
Byamukama is a resident of Rwampara district.
Byamukama, who was 27 years old at the time of his arrest in 1997, has been in prison for 28 years on remand. He appeared before the High Court yesterday when the judge ordered that he should unconditionally be set free.
Byamukama was charged with the murder of a person he alleged to have fought, but his files went missing for all the years spent on remand. END.
