There was a dramatic scene at Nyamwamba Division headquarters in Kasese Municipality today after a woman was arrested for allegedly attempting to offer a bribe of ten thousand shillings to a National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) officer.
The Gombolola Internal Security Officer (GISO), Mr. Friday Mutiba David, confirmed the incident and identified the suspect as Ms. Mackline Biira, a resident of Nyamwamba Division.
According to Mr. Mutiba, after receiving several reports about NIRA officers allegedly soliciting bribes from citizens seeking services, he was tipped off about Mackline’s planned attempt. She reportedly enclosed the ten thousand shillings in a piece of paper and tried to hand it over to the NIRA officer.
