Rev. Samson Syathamira, the Vicar for Kyempara Archdeaconry of the Church of Uganda has called it mere comedy and empty talk for anybody to compare the UPDF with other Ugandan armies before the NRM regime.
In his sermon during the requiem service for the late Ms. Rona Masika in Kyempara one, Isango subcounty in Kasese district yesterday, Rev. Syathamira, a former officer in the Uganda army in the seventies, regretted their acts against married women they sexually abused in public and several stoked of a cane to any man who did not have any money to give them.
To the amazement of the very attentive mourners, some of whom could not have witnessed the reported brutal treatment of the past armies, Rev. Syathamira described the UPDF as a very active, unique and disciplined people’s army, giving an account of one officer who was carrying a jerry-can of water on his shoulder along the Katholhu-Mpondwe highway as he proudly talked to a man who was pushing a bicycle with nothing on. In her brief speech, Hon. Loice Bwambale Biira, the former Kasese district woman Member of Parliament currently in the civil society world, described the late Rona, a mother of four, as unifier whose contributions have initiated peace among many conflicting ethnicities in Kasese district and the region. His Worship Chance Kahindo, the Kasese Municipal Mayor called for individual decisions by community members aimed at hard work, food security and saving souls for eternity. Mr. Chance speaking…….
