The National Youth Committee elections have been postponed, following the disqualification of the NRM flag bearer Blaise Kamugisha on grounds that he is overage.
The disqualification comes out of a petition filed by a section of youths led Chris Moses Mufakinanye, to the commission arguing that Kamugisha, who is the former national coordinator of defunct crime preventers, was over age and therefore unfit to contest on the post.
The National Youth Council Act describes youth as a person between the age of eighteen and thirty years but the petitioner basing on the documents that Kamugisha had submitted in lower youth elections argued that he is already above the age of 30.
Mr. Umar Kiyimba, the head of election management at the Electoral Commission says that the exercise would resume today to give them ample time to analyze the claims. Mr. Umar speaking…..
Mr. Moses Kidega the secretary for finance at Kitgum District youth council says that the postponement was inevitable and warns that if NRM secretariat does not intervene to resolve the matter, the situation will not be any different tomorrow. Mr. Kidega speaking….
Mr. Kamugisha however maintained that he be nominated on grounds that he is a legible voter and aging 28 years now that he was born in 1992. Mr. Kamugisha speaking…….
Earlier in the day, NRM youth protested the nullification of Kamugisha from the race. END
