Mr. Charles Muhindo Musema, a 63 year-old man who survived the brutal murder by the National Army for the Liberation of Uganda, NALU, in Kitholhu subcounty in Kasese district in 1989, attributes his life to the unending mercies of God.

In a separate interview with Our Reporter shortly after memorial mass and the 63rd independence celebrations in Kitholhu subcounty on Thursday last week, Mzee Musema said whereas one sympathetic Kadogo, a young Commander of the NALU was ready to save most of the deceased, the decision of his superiors, Mr. Ngayimoko and Mr. Kapampa took precedence. Unknown to the former Kitholhu subcounty Vice chairman, Mr. Kabuke, he handed a sensitive subcounty letter on security destined to Mr. Paul Byakatonda, the then Kasese District Commissioner now RDC to NALU, whose operators had camouflaged in UPDF fatigue, a move that angered the rebels the more. Under similar camouflage, Mzee Musema said NALU rebels disarmed the Local Defence Unit operators in Kitholhu subcounty ahead of the Independence celebrations that year. Mzee Charles speaking3……..
Putting on a pair of shorts, Mr. Kabuke’s pleas as a students were considered by the rebels who later handed him several strokes of a cane as he was asked to run.
