President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has called on Ugandans to resist corruption and prioritize national interest over short-term financial incentives, warning that such inducements undermine democracy.
Speaking at a rally in Kituntu Sub-County, Mpigi District this week, Museveni urged citizens to safeguard their voting power.
He criticized attempts to influence voters with money, stressing that electoral decisions should reflect genuine choice rather than monetary persuasion.
The President also addressed past electoral malpractices, vowing to prevent a repeat of the 2021 vote-rigging incidents, where he alleged the opposition manipulated 2.7 million votes due to negligence within his party.
He highlighted the introduction of biometric systems to ensure fair and transparent elections.
During the event, 184 defectors from rival parties joined the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
Museveni’s Greater Mpigi tour included meetings with local leaders, Parish Development Model (PDM) beneficiaries, and farmers, focusing on economic empowerment and poverty alleviation. END.
