President Yoweri Museveni plans to hold a meeting with elders and leaders from Northern Uganda in a move aimed at addressing the outstanding compensation woes of war debt claimants.
Speaking at the official opening of the regional parliamentary sitting in Gulu City yesterday, President Museveni said while the government is committing to pay the claimants, the money wasn’t reaching all the beneficiaries.
He particularly highlighted allegations that there are reports of some people in the Attorney General’s chambers who were sending out money quietly without the knowledge of the beneficiaries and leaders.
Museveni queried the delayed compensation for beneficiaries in Acholi, Lango and Teso Sub regions who lost their livestock during the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) insurgency and demanded an answer from the Attorney General. Mr. Museveni speaking….
Kafuuzi, the AG in response noted that 130 billion shillings had so far been disbursed by the government and paid out to the claimants between the financial years 2021/22 and 2023/24. END.
