President Yoweri Museveni has met the Russian Ambassador to Uganda, His Excellency Vladlen Semivolos.
The meeting comes in the wake of a decision by 17 African countries who on Wednesday abstained from voting as the United Nations General Assembly overwhelmingly voted to condemn Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Uganda is among the countries that abstained.
Adonia Ayebare, Uganda’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Uganda to the United Nations said, “Uganda abstained on the UN General Assembly vote on the Ukraine Crisis.
The Soviet Union established diplomatic relations with Uganda on October 11–12, 1962.
On September 4, 2021, President Museveni called for stronger joint economic cooperation with Russia and said the two countries are cooperating well on matters of defence and security. END.
