After enduring the deplorable state of the Nebbi–Goli road for more than 20 years, residents of Nebbi and the entire West Nile region have reason to smile following President Yoweri Museveni’s pledge to finally tarmac the long-awaited route.

While on his campaign trail in Nebbi on Saturday, President Museveni, who is also the NRM presidential candidate, was strongly reminded by local leaders, including His Grace Luke Orombi, the retired Arch Bishop of the Church of Uganda, about the suffering the people of Alur and the wider West Nile region have endured due to the poor state of the 21 kilometer busy road to Goli, leading to the Democratic Republic of Congo. Without giving a specific timeline, President Museveni, in his response, yielded to the leaders’ demands and confirmed that the Nebbi–Goli road would soon be tarmacked, conditioning the locals to use it productively to improve their household incomes.
