Mr. George Mayinja has been officially declared and handed instruments of power from Mr. Leo Thembo, as the Kasese Diocesan head of laity council, with a call for collaborated effort, and hard work that would guarantee Christ’s mission.
The laity council members were elected on 22nd Oct 2024 and forward to the Bishop Diocese of Kasese Rt. Rev. Francis Aquirinus Kibira Kambale for approval and confirmation.
They include, Mr. George Mayinja from Kasanga Parish as Chairperson, deputized by Mr. Augustine Muthabalhi from Kasese Cathedral Parish, Mr. Stephen Muhyana from Ibanda Parish as Secretary, Ms Irene Kiiza from Katwe Parish as publicity and Mrs. Annah Muhindo from Nsenyi Parish as the treasurer.
In his opening speech at the handover ceremony held at the Bishops hall today, the Diocesan Pastoral Coordinator, Rev. Fr. Godfrey Sunday who commended the outgoing leaders asked the incoming to start from where they had reached by spearheading activities in the three years term of office including, salvation of souls, new cathedral construction, animating MEPA pilgrimage to Namugongo and the national celebration of the Uganda Martyrs. The outgoing chairperson, Mr. Leo Thembo who was accompanied with his Vice Mr. Alfonse Katswamba pledged support and advice where necessary to the new executive, but recommended them to follow-up on elevation of Kasese-Kampala community to a parish status, upgrade of upcountry health centres and strengthening catechism among others. Mr. George Mayinja called for prayers and support from the lay faithful in the diocese of Kasese promising deducted service and teamwork.
