By Kyamanduma Patrick,
The reconstruction of the Mpondwe Bridge in Kasese District has begun today.
The bridge was damaged by floods in December 2023 before major components were stolen by suspected scrap dealers.
The works are being undertaken by Armpass Technical Services Company under the supervision of the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA).
Mark Edwin Kawula, the site engineer, said the works would be completed in six months and called upon the community to safeguard the site from any wrong elements.
He also appealed for support from the political leaders in the area.
Mr. Moses Mugisa, the Mpondwe-Lhubiriha Town Clerk, called on the contractor to offer quality work, considering the heavy traffic that crosses the border.
Mr.Selvest Mapoze, the local council three chairperson for Mpondwe-Lhubiriha town council, said the completion of the project will greatly improve transportation across the border. Mr. Mapoze speaking…..
He noted that heavy trucks have often been diverted to use other routes, increasing the cost of transport. END.
