Meanwhile, the Bukedea Woman MP Anita Amongi has been declared winner of the Deputy Speakership race after she garnered 415 votes in last evening elections.
Amongi, the NRM’s flag bearer out competed her rivals, Kampala Central MP Muhammad Nsereko an Independent candidate who polled 24 votes, and the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC)’s Yusuf Nsibambi who polled 35.
According to the results announced by the newly elected Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah, a total of 481 votes were cast, while invalid votes were 7.
Oulanyah went ahead to declare Anita Amongi who got the majority vote as the new Deputy Speaker.
Amongi, 47, is an accountant and a lawyer by profession who has served in the Parliamentary Committee on Commissions Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE).
She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Accounting, and a Masters in Business Administration from Makerere University. Amongi also holds aĀ Bachelor of Laws from Kampala International University andĀ Postgraduate degree in Banking from Uganda Martyrs University. END.
